FFFN’s “Food, Facts and Film” Highlight Foster Care System

Faith Foster Families Network will host “Food, Facts and Film” on Oct. 5, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Holman United Methodist Church, 3320 W. Adams Blvd., in Los Angeles. According to Nancy Harris, FFFN executive director, the free event will focus on enlightening the community about foster care and the child welfare system. In addition to food stations and information, the program will feature a screening of the HBO documentary, “Foster.”  Following the screening, a panel discussion will take place that includes two of the main individuals in the film. The producer is scheduled to participate as well.

Show of Solidarity in Aftermath of Hate 

In a moving and emphatic show of solidarity after the Tree of Life synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh, hundreds of people from across Los Angeles County gathered on Nov. 1, for an interfaith worship service at the First AME Church, and sang and prayed together for hope, healing, courage and perseverance.

International  WMS President Speaks at FAME

Dr. Shirley Cason-Reed, international president of the Women ‘s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, will be the guest speaker for Annual Missionary Day on Sunday, May 29, 10 a.m., at First AME Church of Los Angeles (FAME). Spiritual leaders discuss marijuana in the church

On Friday, August 14, spiritual leaders led an intense discussion about marijuana at First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles. As part of the web series, “Cannabis Talk with Johnni Matthews,” the panel discussed whether or not marijuana should be accepted in the church. The panelists included the Rev. Dr. Cecil “Chip” Murray, the Rev. Cathy Shelton, the Rev. Benjamin Hollins, and medical marijuana practitioner, Dr. Sean Aldridge.
