While the death toll from the various wildfires ravaging parts of the Los Angeles area remained unclear Thursday, relatives of four people who died in the Eaton Fire near Altadena and Pasadena paid tribute to their lost loved ones.
Even as winds diminished slightly, the Eaton Fire that has already caused five deaths and destroyed or damaged more than 1,000 structures advanced on Mount Wilson on Thursday, Jan. 9, threatening the observatory and broadcast infrastructure.
Fierce wildfires are raging in the Los Angeles area, fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds, sending residents fleeing from burning homes through flames, ferocious winds and towering clouds of smoke. Thousands of firefighters were battling at least three separate blazes, from the Pacific Coast inland to Pasadena.
