The California Legislative Black Caucus has a mission to “address legislative concerns of African Americans and other citizens of color.” The CLBC has released their 2020 Legislative Agenda and there are two noted categories: Priority and Supported Bills. They cover economics, education, and social justice. Here is a summary of measurements proposed this year.

California Black Caucus Introduces Reparations Bill

On May 11, the California Assembly Judiciary Committee voted yes on a bill that would mandate the state to set up an eight-member commission to examine how California engaged in — and benefited from — the enslavement of Black men, women and children.

CLBC Members Kick Off MLK Celebration in The Capitol City

The event was held at the Sacramento Masonic Temple. The Rev. Al Sharpton gave the keynote address. The California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC) serves as a body to ensure that pressing issues facing Black Americans in California are brought to the forefront of policy and budgetary decisions. Newsom praised the group for its continual work. Newsom said, “What you guys have accomplished in the last four or five years is extraordinary. What you guys did should be a point of pride. It’s not about the legislature versus the executive.
