The members of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) have awarded the organization’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to Senator Steven Bradford. The award was presented to Senator Bradford during NBCSL’s 46th Annual Legislative Conference.

“I am humbled beyond words,” said Senator Bradford. “I know that I’m only able to do the work I’m doing because of the people that have come before me. I stand on their shoulders and hope that one day others will reach even greater heights. I graciously accept this award and commit to continuing my work to promote equity, equal justice, and opportunity in every region of California.”

In 1995, NBCSL announced the first annual Lifetime Achievement Award. This award goes to legislators, current or past, living or deceased, whose work has distinguished them from their peers. Their contributions continue to have a lasting effect on the African- American community and our nation, as well as add to the health and vitality of NBCSL as a national organization.

NBCSL is the nation’s premier organization representing and serving the interests of African American State legislators. With more than 700 members representing more than 60 million Americans, NBCSL serves as a national network, advocate and catalyst for public policy innovation, information exchange, and joint action on critical issues affecting African Americans and other marginalized communities.
