The Regalettes Incorporated, an organization that has been around for over 63 years, will host its 2021 Crown Awards Scholarship Fundraiser virtually this year on October 24, 2021. This year’s honorees include longtime contributor Dr. William “Bill” Burke, former chair of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and founder of the Los Angeles Marathon. Dr. Burke will receive the President’s Legacy Award. Cassie Betts, founder of Made in South LA and catalyst and visionary behind South Central’s first tech center, will receive the Trailblazer Award. The organization will also provide scholarships to eight deserving students as well as spotlight alumni and current students performances during the event. The Crown Awards will take place on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 4pm-6pm PT.
“We are excited to announce our honorees,” says Lois Buckman, president of Regalettes, Inc. “Dr. Burke has made a tremendous impact, not just in Los Angeles, but on the world through his businesses and advocacy. Cassie Betts is energizing and transforming South Los Angeles in a revolutionary way by decreasing the technology divide and she is preparing our youth for future careers. We couldn’t be prouder of both of our honorees.”
The main focus on the Crown Awards is to provide scholarships to deserving students in need, based on grade-point average, community service and recommendations. One of the hallmarks of receiving a Regalettes scholarship is that the Regalettes support their students over the course of their education—not just one year. To date, the Regalettes have provided over $1M dollars in scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded to the students during the 2-hour fete. Additionally, past and current scholarship recipients will provide performances, with surprise guests along the way.
Concludes Buckman, “The pandemic precluded our ability to host our annual event last year, so we decided to host our fundraiser virtually this year. This event and monies raised are critical to our ability to continue to provide scholarships and programs to our youth as their future is at stake. We’ve got to provide them the educational tools that they’ll need to succeed. We’ll present our Teen Leadership Conference “Creating Your Own Path” in conjunction with SIILK (Sisters Involved In Linking Knowledge) on Saturday, November 6, a free, one-day event that provides leadership, entrepreneurial and self-esteem workshops to girls aged 11-17. Additionally, we continue to provide holiday dinners to families in need. We so appreciate and welcome all support so that we can continue with our mission of service.”
