Los Angeles City Council President joined Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council and dedicated community members for the re-opening of Leslie N. Shaw Park. The park, located in Council District 10, honors the legacy of the first African-American postmaster of a major U.S. city.
“Today is a good day. Not only does this park enhance our community, but it also provides a place for residents to be active outdoors, said Wesson. He added, “Parks help build communities and it is my vision that local families will spend time in the park getting to know their neighbors.”
Leslie N. Shaw Park improvements included a new custom designed playground with resilient surfacing, fitness equipment, picnic tables, smart irrigation landscaping, fencing, and a walking path around the perimeter of the park. In addition, upgraded lighting was installed to enhance the visual appeal of the park and provide more security.
