“Priceless Dance Production is dedicated to putting on performances that are a reflection of the community,” said founder and creator, Genell Price about her dance company.

Established in 2003, Priceless Dance Productions (PDP) is as private dance program created for kids ages 3-12. Price has been dancing all her life and is an alum of the Lula Washington Dance Studio. As a seasoned dancer, she began picking up private clientele and as a result, decided to start her own dance company. Kaos Network, a non-profit organization in Leimert Park, allows PDP to utilize their building. She currently has about 30 private students in her program. She describes the program as a cycle that takes students through every discipline.

“They do everything,” said Price. “I make sure that they perform each genre of dance as much as the other so that they are well-balanced.

“They do a little of everything.”

Price has stated that the objective of PDP is to motivate and inspire youth through the art of dance. The program teaches ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and yoga. She believes that PDP serves as a place where you can channel their energies in a positive direction.

“Dance studios especially—I’ve seen a lot of beautiful things happen,” said Price. “It’s a good place for networking, supporting the youth with what they want to do.

“Even though kids are in dance classes doesn’t necessarily mean they want to become dancers. A lot of them just learn discipline, drive, to be competitive—the physical attributes as well [like] posture and confidence.

“It’s great for life skills.”

At PDP, Price is the only instructor and uses her older students to help teach the younger students. This teaching process allows for the older students to pass on what they’ve learned and develop leadership skills.

“Let’s say on a particular day, I have three 3-year old kids and a nine-year old,” said Price. “That nine-year old would lead them throughout the whole class and help them learn what they know already.

“I have students in my class that are like under studies of mine because they’ve been with me for so long.

“Now if I have all my advanced students come in—that’s when we go in. I challenge them and it’s exciting.”
PDP has performed at many locations around South L.A. and is currently offering two days of dance classes: Super Saturdays, which is from 9am-12noon and Wondrous Wednesdays, which is from 5pm-6:30pm.

“We hope to expand and have the classes go from Tuesday to Saturday,” said Price
