In a salute to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., People’s Independent Church of Christ (PICC) will sponsor its 2017 MLK Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 10:30 a.m.
The event, coordinated by PICC’s Social Action Commission, will be held on the church’s campus located at 5856 West Blvd., in Los Angeles. The theme is “Illuminating the Dream to Transform Communities.” Pastor Shane Scott of Macedonia Baptist Church will be the guest speaker.
“Believers of all faiths are invited to join us as we commemorate the birthday and vision of Dr. King,” said Bishop Craig Worsham, senior pastor. “Pastor Scott, who works tirelessly to uplift the Watts community, will bring an insightful message outlining how people can turn Dr. King’s dream into reality in their neighborhoods.”
Scott has served since 2011 as pastor of Macedonia, the oldest African American church in Watts. During his tenure, the Macedonia Community Development Corporation (MCDC) was established and sponsors several outreach programs such as the Healthy Watts 5K Run and Community Walk, the Business Resource Center and Incubator, HomeBuying@MacedoniaCDC and Jobs@MacedoniaCDC.
Previously, Scott was pastor St. Rest Baptist Church in Fresno and served as youth and young adult minister at Friendship Baptist Church in Vallejo.
A graduate of Stillman College, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Religion and Philosophy and earned a Master’s of Divinity degree at American Baptist Seminary of the West.
