October 7: Amiri Baraka was born in Newark, New Jersey. A playwright, poet, activist and scholar,  influenced the African American community and collective culture. Baraka produced “Blues People: The Negro Music in White America” (1963) and “The Autobiography of LeRoi Jones/Amiri Baraka” (1984).
