A powerful coalition of labor leaders, elected officials, and formerly incarcerated individuals came together for a press conference to urge Californians to vote Yes on Proposition 6 – a groundbreaking initiative that seeks to end forced labor in California’s carceral system, expand rehabilitation opportunities for incarcerated individuals, and save taxpayer money.

L.A. Sentinel Visits Western States Carpenters South L.A. Training Center

The Los Angeles Sentinel staff recently visited their Taste of Soul festival’s labor partner, Western States Carpenters, at their Local 323 Training Center in Carson, CA.  The South L.A. carpenters are the backbone of the festival.  Each year, the organization volunteers, taking on the massive task as builders and disassemblers of the annual event with over 350,000 attendees on Crenshaw Blvd.

Sparks Struggle in Second Half, Lose to Mercury

The Los Angeles Sparks fell 81-85 against the Phoenix Mercury during their fan appreciation night.  The Sparks showed a competitiveness during  the first half that they were unable to maintain. The Mercury implemented a zone defense that the Sparks were not familiar with.
