Pastor Darryl E. Walker

The congregation of New Philadelphia A.M.E. Church will celebrate the 60th birthday and the 40th year of ministry of Pastor Darryl E. Walker. 

The salute begins with a luncheon on Saturday, October 18, at the Marriott Hotel in Long Beach.  Ministers, family and friends from across the country will attend to join members at the milestone celebration. 

Also, the public is invited to attend the worship on Sunday, October 19, at 9 a.m., in the edifice at New Philadelphia is located at 19100 South Susana Road in Rancho Dominguez.  The Rev. Benjamin Thomas, pastor of Tanner Chapel A.M.E. Church in Phoenix, AZ, will be the guest preacher.  Only one service will be held on this day.

The Rev. Walker was ordained in the A.M.E. Church as an Itinerant Deacon in 1974 and as an Itinerant Elder in 1977 in the A.M.E. Church.  Prior to current appointment, he served as pastor of Mount Olive A.M.E. in Emporia, KS; Allen Chapel A.M.E. in Cheyenne, WY; Ebenezer A.M.E. in Bremerton, WA; Parks Chapel A.M.E. in Los Angeles, St. John A.M.E. in Omaha, NE; Allen A.M.E. in Tacoma, WA; Ebenezer A.M.E. in Kansas City, MO; and Turner Memorial A.M.E. in Hyattsville, MD.

A native of Denver, CO, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Theology and Master’s of Divinity degree. His community service includes being a member of the executive boards of the NAACP, the Black Health Care Coalition, the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa, Inc. in Washington, DC, and CEO of the Henry McNeal Turner Early Learning Center in Oxon Hills, MD.

Pastor Walker is married to First Lady Yvonne Smith Walker and they are the parents of two sons, Donovan and Eric.
