The life and ministry of the Rev. Dr. Lonnie Dawson will be observed at the Founder’s Day 2019 services hosted by New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, Aug. 18, at the 7:30 a.m., and 10:45 a.m. worship services.
Dr. Dawson organized New Mount Calvary in 1967 with six people and the membership grew to exceed 2,000. During his tenure, the church sponsored a Child Care Center and an Elementary and Middle School and was actively involved in several outreach ministries to aid the local, national and international community. The vibrant ministry continues to make a difference within and outside the church walls under the leadership of Pastor Sonja R. Dawson.
Inviting the public to attend, Pastor Sonja R. Dawson said, “We give all honor, glory, and praise to God for the 48 years that Rev. Dr. Lonnie Dawson labored in the vineyard to reach souls for Jesus Christ in this present age.
“Moreover, we look forward to acknowledging his and First Lady Emeritus Mamie P. Dawson’s dedication to the preaching and teaching of God’s word, their cultivation of members’ spiritual growth and development, and their loving relationship towards each other, New Mount Calvary, and the community at-large.”
At 3:30 p.m., the church will host the 5th Annual Legacy Awards Celebration, which recognizes trailblazer members who have worked with the founding pastor and first lady in the establishment and expansion of the ministry.
