Mayor continues commitment to empowering Compton youth
Compton Mayor Aja Brown along with rapper YG’s 4Hundred Waze Foundation hosted the first Compton Fun Fridays for local youth on Fri. Mar. 17 at the Dollarhide Community Center. The event was a safe space for Compton youth in grades 6 through 12 to enjoy themselves, network and just hang out. Radio partner Power 106 brought out a live D.J. and local youth were treated to food, entertainment, games, empowerment and surprise guests.
“As we move into the new year, the City of Compton is fully committed to continuing the goals, promises and efforts of My Brother’s Keeper—a coordinated Federal effort to address persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and ensure that all young people can reach their full potential,” explained Mayor Brown. “I am fully committed to developing and leveraging partnerships on behalf of Compton residents that allow us to provide our youth with programming and safe spaces for them to grow friendships and to be empowered in their own community. One of those partnerships is with YG and his mother Shonee Jackson—whom we affectionately refer to as Mama YG. Their generosity in supporting Compton Fun Fridays continues to showcase their dedication to Compton families and youth.”
Compton Fun Fridays is a part of Mayor Brown’s Vision for Compton 12-point platform and is sponsored in part by the City of Compton, 4Hundred Waze Foundation and the MadMac Foundation.
The next Compton Fun Fridays will take place on Fri., Apr. 7.
