A spirit of rejoicing filled the air as Pastor Shane B. Scott and the members of Macedonia Baptist Church celebrated their 111th anniversary on Oct. 20.
The spirited service was centered around the theme, “He Who Began a Good Work in Us,” based on Philippians 1:6. The Rev. Dr. Kenneth Campbell, founder and pastor of the Household of Faith Community Church in Houston, Texas, was the guest preacher.
“Celebrating anniversaries helps us to observe the past while anticipating the future,” said Scott. “God has certainly been good to us!” Macedonia Baptist, the oldest African American church in the Watts community, was organized in 1908 under the leadership of the Rev. Louis Stokes.
Scott, who has served as the spiritual leader since 2011, is only the eighth pastor of the church, which has worshipped at 1755 E. 114th St., in Los Angeles, since it was founded.
