Applications will be accepted online until June 17, for the 28th Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant, which takes place on Sunday, August 14, at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Los Angeles.
According to Lisa Ruffin, founder/producer, children between the ages of 6 to 12 are invited to apply for one of the 50 openings in the educational program focused on instilling confidence, awareness and pride in young girls. Also, more than $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded.
“Selected participants undertake a cultural enrichment program designed to promote teamwork, self-esteem, and heighten cultural awareness. They take classes in public speaking, science, technology and etiquette and are taught performances by award winning choreographers,” explained Ruffin.
“In addition, the young ladies make new friends and learn about their rich African American history. By fostering these universal attributes at such a tender age, our girls grow to be leaders in their communities and help to change the world,” she added.
