Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a high-performing “Best Hospital” in maternity care for 2022-23, thanks to the delivery of high-quality services to expectant mothers.

West Los Angeles Medical Center joined 10 other Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Southern California in being listed on U.S. News’ national list of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

“We take pride that expectant families choose Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center to deliver their new baby because they know they will receive compassionate care that is centered around their total health and safety,” said Lilit Zibari, RN, MSN, senior vice president and area manager for Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles. “This recognition reflects our commitment to providing new moms and their babies a healthy start.”

To be considered for its list, U.S. News rated participating hospitals across the country in the following categories:

  • Cesarean births.
  • Exclusive breast milk feeding.
  • Unexpected complications in term newborns.
  • Vaginal births after C-section.

“It is an honor to care for the families in our community as they welcome their babies into the world,” said Dr. Kirk Tamaddon, area medical director and chief of staff for Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles. “We are proud of our highly skilled maternal care teams for continuing to ensure that the well-being of our patients and their families are at the forefront of our care.”

U.S. News evaluated 649 hospitals nationwide and 67 medical centers in California for its list, and only U.S. hospitals that provided maternity services were considered for this study. Min Hee Seo, a senior health data analyst at U.S. News & World Report, told Medscape the new additions to the ranking system will help parents make more informed decisions about their maternal care.
