FANTASIA
The R&B diva and Grammy award winning female vocalist is certainly no stranger to controversy and criticism.
But a resilient and liberated Fantasia recently took the stage at the 30th Annual Long Beach Gay Pride Festival in Long Beach rendering a passionate performance.
Audaciously fierce and more confident than ever, “Tasia” boldly proclaimed, “I am doin’ me and I don’t care what nobody has to say,” before kicking off her heels onstage.
Dressed in a white, tightly fitted cutout party dress, and revealing a much more slender and toned figure, the exceptional vocalist pumped up the crowd with her brief rendition of Drake’s “Started From The Bottom.”
If the relationship between Fantasia and the LGBT community was strained by her seemingly disapproving comment about gay marriage posted on Instagram in late December of last year, there was certainly no evidence of that as the crowd of thousands eagerly welcomed and embraced her.
To further demonstrate her affection for the supportive attendees, she spent several minutes stating, “I hate the gates” and requested venue workers to “open the gates” that were serving as a barrier between the stage and the front row of the audience. She went on to clarify that she needed to “feel some people”—a gesture in alignment with her personable and down-to-earth reputation.
But after a bit of housekeeping, ‘Tasia didn’t waste any time kicking into high vocal gear with crowd favorites like “Man of the House,” “Free Yourself” and “Collards and Cornbread.”
Moments after confessing that she was a “music baby” who grew up on the “meat and potatoes” music from the 80s, Fantasia and her band brought the crowd to its feet with an invigorating throwback performance of “Nasty Girl” by Vanity 6, “In My House” by the Mary Jane Girls, Shelia E’s “The Glamorous Life” and “The Bird” by Morris Day & The Time.
Visibly empowered and energized, ‘Tasia continued to walk the crowd down memory lane with her rendition of “If I Ruled The World.”
Although concert goers got a strong sense of Fantasia’s reawakening as an individual and as an artist, when she performed “Bittersweet” and “Even Angels,” humbly stating, “Guess I gotta’ let it go, the situation wasn’t good for me,” we got a sense that Ms. Barrino is still in the process of recovering from the effects of failed relationships and disappointments. And this could be no clearer than in her hit song, “Lose to Win” which she sang near the close of her performance. By Dana L. Stringer/Eurweb
LIL SCRAPPY
Dirty South rap artist Lil Scrappy is admitting that his life is becoming unraveled because he can’t stop smoothing pot.
The Atlanta rapper has failed a drug test and confirmed that he is addicted to Kush, a potent albeit popular form of marijuana. The performer says that he is committing himself to rehab.
According to reports from TMZ, Lil Scrappy believes he’s addicted to weed … and after failing a court-ordered drug test, the rapper will enter a rehab facility for treatment.
Scrappy appeared in a Georgia courtroom recently, where officials revealed a urine test Scrappy took last week came back positive for marijuana.
TMZ spoke with Scrappy’s lawyer, Mawuli Mel Davis, who said … the rapper will check into a rehab facility before June 16.
The lawyer also said … Scrappy acknowledges he’s addicted to smoking weed.
TMZ broke the story … Scrappy was recently jailed for violating his probation back in March after a dispute over a different pee test. According to court officials, Scrappy tried to turn in a urine sample that was cold to the touch and may have been tampered with … and when asked to submit another cup, he refused.
To add insult to injury, his wages are being garnished for unpaid debt.
The rapper recently sent out a tweet aimed at his on again off again fiancée, Atlanta castmate, Erica Dixon. “Sorry to say the women n my life didn’t put me on I put them on so how can they b richer than me, think people lol dnt listen to angry folks,” he tweeted on Monday (May 20). “I’m so regretful of even tryin to get married n puttin that girl onna show who tries to ruin their baby daddy life n he help build urs.”
Scrappy took to Twitter again, asking for prayers before he saw the judge.
KANYE WEST
It’s hard to figure out where to go with the Kanye West gay rumors.
The rumors have exploded since In Touch magazine featured a cover story revealing West’s very pregnant fling Kim Kardashian and a separate photo of ‘Gold Digger’ and fashion designer Riccardo Tisci side by side.
Some fans think such gossip is totally ridiculous, while others insist they knew West was into guys this entire time.
The In Touch exclusive published earlier this month initially sparked the “Kanye West gay” rumors… apparently, the baby bump-flaunting Kim K fears that West has a secret “boyfriend” over in Paris… MediaTakeOut merely added fuel to the fire by quoting Riccardo Tisci’s recent “best sex” revelation. In a recent interview with Vogue Homme, Tisci is asked to reveal his “best” sexual experience. The fashion mogul goes on to dish:
“I have several but the one I think immediately is an experience I had with a man who is known. I never imagined that something could happen between us and it’s still the “hottest weekend of my life.
Nobody really knows if this guy is straight or gay, it is a mystery. However, I was attracted to him, his way of speaking, thinking, walking, dressing. I love what he does as an artist.
This weekend both, this intimate moment has only reinforced my attraction to him.”
