James Levi McCarty, Jr.
James Levi McCarty, Jr., a retired mortician and a U.S. Army veteran, died June 30, 2010 in Los Angeles. He was 72. He worked at Angelus Funeral Home in south Los Angeles, where he served hundreds of families until his retirement in 1998. James was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Huntington, WV holding several offices including Grand Marshal and Potentate. He continued his association and charity work with the Free Masons of Southern California.
McCarty is preceded in death by his parents James Levi McCarty, Sr. and Olivia Bernice Smith-McCarty; four brothers, Robert Earl, Willie Franklin, Thomas Lewis and Robert Lee; two sisters, Sally Mae and Evelyn Florence; and a niece, Joanne Marie. He leaves to cherish his memory a special friend, Peyton Chappell of San Diego; two sisters, Willa Mae Wilson and Barbara Grace Johnson; and a brother, Rev. Fred L. McCarty and his wife Patricia: and a host of relatives and friends.
“There are not enough words to summarize how your smile, ambition to succeed and resounding voice touched the lives of those you have left behind.” A memorial service will be held at a later date.
