POL - Herb Wesson

Mass transit is the wave of the future and in a show of support L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson joined leaders on a tour of the 950-ton machine named for African-American abolitionist Harriet Tubman. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) or “Harriet” is a giant drill tasked with digging the tunnels needed for the trains to travel underground. The TBM is in process of digging the tunnels that will ultimately connect three Metro stations from Expo/Crenshaw to Vernon/Crenshaw. The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project is a $2 billion dollar investment in the local community and will have eight new stations serving the Crenshaw, Inglewood and LAX areas. It is expected to open in 2019, according to Metro.
