To celebrate Independence Day this year and to kick off the summer after a long month of June gloom, there are plenty of events happening around the city not to miss this weekend.  

Rooftop Cinema Club

To start off, don’t miss the screening of ‘Coming to America’ at the Rooftop Cinema Club in El Segundo, 1310 E Franklin Ave 4th Level, El Segundo, CA 90245 on Saturday July 1st. Rooftop Cinema features movies every weekend with outdoor seating, provided headphones, food and beverages. CD8 Pool Party

In District 8, Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson will be hosting the South LA Strong Pool Party at the Van Ness Aquatic Center, 5720 2nd Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90043, at 5:30pm in South LA for the community to attend with their families. The event will feature free hot dogs from Earle’s on Crenshaw, pool activities, and a movie presentation. There will be food, games, music and lots of fun for people of all ages. In the South Bay, the African American Cultural Center of Long Beach will be hosting their first fundraiser event of the year, “An Evening of Jazz” at the Expo Arts Center, 4321 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach, CA 90807, from 6-9pm. The event will feature music from Legendary Alvin Hayes, Jr and his band, Zhe Scott on Violin, and Alex and Charles Julian Fearing.  

For some family fun the day of the fourth, Los Angeles residents can head to a number of events. Head downtown to the Fourth of July Block Party at Grand Park, 200 N Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012, starting at 9pm, where there will be fireworks, food trucks, and live music. El Segundo will also be having a community festival at El Segundo Parks and Recreation, 401 Sheldon St, El Segundo, CA 90245, during the day from 10am-9pm with games, food, music, as well as some evening events. For those local to the South LA community, the Culver City Exchange Club will be hosting the Culver City Independence Day Celebration featuring fireworks, food trucks, games, and prizes! This event will start at 3:30pm at West Angeles College, 9000 Overland Ave, Culver City, CA 90230.
