On November 10, Dr. Myles Munroe died untimely in a plane crash on Grand Bahama Island. Munroe, his wife, Ruth, and seven others were killed after their plane hit a construction crane in a shipyard on approach to the Grand Bahama International Airport.
A full investigation began a day after the private Lear 36 Executive crashed. The group was flying back to the Bahamas to attend Munroe’s Global Leadership Forum. Munroe was the chair for the annual three day event that brings together emerging leaders from different parts of the world.
Celebrities and leaders across the world expressed their deepest gratitude for the Munroe family. Gospel singer Fred Hammond stated on Twitter, “Like the rest of the body of Christ I’m beyond shocked and devastated at the news of pastor and friend, Myles Munroe. Heartbroken!”
Bishop T.D. Jakes also paid his condolences through Instagram. “There are few biblical clinicians whose view of ministry wasn’t enriched in some way by this tremendous bible scholar. His voice changed the way we viewed the Kingdom. Dr. and Mrs. Myles Munroe and associates gone but not forgotten,” said Bishop Jakes. Born in the Bahamas, Munroe received his bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Oral Roberts University and his master’s from the University of Tulsa with a degree in administration in 1980. He also served as an adjunct professor at Oral Roberts.
He was ordained as a Pentecostal minister and soon became the founder and leader of the Bahamas Faith International Ministries. Dr. Myles Munroe, 60, and his wife, Ruth, were married for 35 years. They had two children, Charisa Munroe and Myles Chairo Munroe.
Chairo Munroe told the Tribune that the week following the death of his parents plane crash was the hardest for him and his sister. “You just don’t think certain people will not be here tomorrow. I encourage people this week [to tell] people in your life that you love [them]. [If] they mean a lot to you make sure you tell them. Don’t take for granted that you will be able to tell them tomorrow because tomorrow isn’t promised,” he said.
Munroe’s Ministries released a statement saying, “On behalf of the Family of Dr. Myles and Pastor Ruth Munroe and Dr. Richard Pinder, we would once again like to thank the Bahamian people as well as people from around the world for their expressions of love, well wishes and support. It truly means a lot to us.”
The crash victims include BFMI vice-president Dr. Richard Pinder, newly ordained youth pastors Lavard and Radel Parks, their son, Johanan, 5, pilot, Captain Stanley Thurston, co-pilot Frahkan Cooper and Diego DeSantiago.
Funeral services for Dr. Myles and Pastor Ruth Munroe will be held December 4 at Bahamas Faith Ministries International Diplomat Center.
