DJ JiJi Sweet
For a third year DJ JiJi Sweet is looking forward to showing off her skills on Crenshaw Blvd. at this year’s Taste of Soul.
“We’re going to be highlighting independent and local artists. I’ll be DJ-ing at the booth all day,” explained Sweet.
“We’ll have about between 20 and 30 artists… whoever wants to showcase their talent.”
Sweet said she had been watching Taste of Soul from its inception in 2006 when she worked for V100 (an early TOS partner).
“I was watching and watching and finally I decided, ‘you know what, this is an opportunity to promote, let me just get out here and get my own booth.’”
Sweet will be in the booth all day, so she won’t get a chance to get in line for any of the food vendors, she said. However, she is looking forward to sampling a variety of fare being brought to her.
“I know there’s going to be a lot of great food vendors out there and [coming to my booth] will be a great opportunity for them to promote their products,” she said.
According to her website, Sweet began her career as a senior at the University of Arizona. After working on perfecting her craft for about a year, she landed her first gig with the local Kappa Alpha Psi chapter becoming one of the most sought after DJ’s in Tucson. She left Arizona for Las Vegas to work for KCEP Power 88.
Sweet came to Los Angeles in 2002.
“I was a DJ on the [100.3] the Beat from 2003 until 2007,” Sweet recalled.
“From there I did some stuff for KJLH. Currently I’m on Sirius satellite radio.”
