Los Angeles Chargers defensive back Desmond King was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week, the National Football League office announced on Wednesday. The weekly accolade is a career first for the second-year player out of Iowa.
King recorded his third interception since Week 6, this one coming in timely fashion in the fourth quarter as the Detroit, Mich., native returned it 42 yards for his second career interception return for a touchdown. King added three tackles and returned six kicks (4 PR, 2 KR) to help seal the fifth straight win for the Chargers.
On the season, King has totaled 20 tackles, two for a loss, three interceptions and has broken up six passes. He has returned 23 kicks (16 PR, 7 KR) for 331 yards with a punt return long of 56 yards.
