The Dec. 14 Texas District Court’s ruling (U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Texas v. United States of America) on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act HAS NO IMPACT on Covered California’s open enrollment period currently underway. In response to a surge of interest in Covered California enrollment and to ensure consumers have ample time to sign up for health plans, the deadline to enroll for coverage to start Jan. 1 has been extended to this Friday, Dec. 21.
Covered California Executive Director Peter V. Lee recently issued the following statement in response to the Texas District Court’s ruling:
“Open enrollment is full-steam ahead in California and continues in other states for several more weeks. No one in America should let this Texas District Court ruling discourage them from enrolling in health coverage or be worried about using the health coverage they have. This case will wind its way through the courts and I’m confident the Supreme Court will once again do the right thing and uphold the Affordable Care Act.”
Covered California enrollment will continue until Jan. 15 for coverage that will start on Feb. 1. To enroll, visit www.CoveredCA.com where you can get information about quality health plans offered at the lowest cost possible, see if you’re eligible for financial help to assist in paying your monthly health care costs, enroll online, or get information about obtaining free, confidential in-person assistance in a variety of languages from a local certified enroller in your area..
