Top L.A. area lawmakers agree: Educator and Organizer Sade Elhawary is the right person to lead Assembly District 57
Supervisor Holly Mitchell and Assemblymember Isaac Bryan showed up for a livestream campaign event last night to announce their endorsements of Assembly candidate Sade Elhawary The two legislators join a long list of community leaders and public servants supporting Sade, including Alberto Retana and Maria Brenes, as well as Assemblymembers Reggie Jones-Sawyer and Tina McKinnor, Senators Lola Smallwood-Cuevas, Kevin Murray, and Isadore Hall, and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson.
Supervisor Mitchell, who started her career as an advocate for youth and families at Crystal Stairs and later served in the state legislature for a decade, declared her support, saying, “I proudly endorse Sade Elhawary to represent California’s 57th Assembly District As an organizer at the forefront of the next generation of leadership, her work is focused on improving outcomes for our youth through education and eliminating inequities in our communities. Sade is committed to putting her innovative, resourceful ideas to work for the greater good of every resident of the state.”
Assemblymember Bryan, recognized as a leader at the forefront of the movement to fundamentally change the justice system in California, joined in, saying, “Like Sade, I know that real change comes from uplifting the people who are most impacted by policy failures. Sade Elhawary will bring her lived experience as an educator, college counselor, foster parent, and daughter of immigrants to the State Assembly – and I look forward to working side-by-side with her as part of the next generation of South L.A. public servants.”
Moved by the large outpouring of support, Sade responded, “I have watched and studied and am deeply inspired by the work of these two heroes of mine and by the progress they set in motion for our communities It is a great honor to step forward and join them in the fight to create a more equitable California, where everyone has an opportunity to thrive, not just survive.”
