Here is an excerpt of a phone conversation with the author, preacher, mother, and daughter of Bishop and First Lady Serita Jakes, Cora Jakes.

The Los Angeles Sentinel: Thank you for taking the time to talk with me about your new book — ‘Ferocious Warrior: Dismantle Your Enemy and Rise’—I hear you’re doing great at the Essence Fest.

Cora Jakes: You are very welcome. Yes, the [Essence Fest] it’s something special.

LAS: What is the most important thing you want your readers to understand about this new book? It’s a bold, bold, bold title.

CJ: (laughing) This book isn’t supposed to be pretty or tame. I’m talking about how to punch through your pain and deliver a fatal blow to the enemy.

LAS:  A spiritual battle?

CJ: A spiritual battle. The enemy wants you to feel divided from all that God has for you and miss out on the experience of a ferocious victory. The devil wants to take you out.

LAS: Hence your book’s bold title — ‘Ferocious Warrior: Dismantle Your Enemy.’ You’re not playing Cora.

CJ: I’m not playing. The enemy plays dirty and attacks and that fight gets ugly.

LAS: In your book do you talk about how to defend yourself from spiritual attack? What are the two most important things needed to win?

CJ: Prayers and Faith.  The power of your prayers and faith. They have to get intense.

LAS: Do you offer suggestions on how to get intense?

CJ: I do, [in the book] I talk about the five principles of prayer.  I talk about how to let your pain push you to your next level and how to think like a warrior and win even the toughest fights.

LAS: In the press notes it says this: “You have to remove the makeup, take off the tie, and get down in the dirt of life to destroy the work of the devil.”

Amazing. Who inspires you, Cora Jakes Coleman?

CJ:  My mother First Lady Serita Jakes. She’s a prayer warrior. Once, when my mother was coming out of surgery she came out praying. She’s a big part of my spiritual inspiration. “Ferocious Warrior: Dismantle Your Enemy and Rise” by Cora Jakes Coleman available in book stores and online.
