Rabbi David Wolpe of Sinai Temple in Los Angeles and the Rev. William Smart, president/CEO of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Southern California, will preach on Sunday, May 3, at Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church (COR), 45 Telsa in Irvine.

According to Pastor Mark E. Whitlock, Jr., “This worship experience is destined to be a historic moment in the life of COR Church as well as all churches in Orange County.”

The Rev. Smart, who will preach at 8 a.m., has headed C.M.E. congregations in Birmingham, Alabama; Apex, North Carolina; Forest City, Arkansas; Jackson, Tennessee; Norfolk, Virginia; and Los Angeles, California. Also, he has been featured in the L.A. Times, CBS, NBC, ABC, and on KNX radio. He leads one of the largest branches of the historic SCLC founded by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

Rabbi Wolpe, who speaks at 10:30 a.m., was named the most influential rabbi in America by Newsweek Magazine and one of the fifty most powerful Jews in the world by the Jerusalem Post. He is frequently featured in documentaries on Biblical topics produced by A&E Networks (A&E, The Biography Channel, History Channel and History Channel International). He has also appeared as a commentator on NBC’s The Today Show, CBS’ Face The Nation, CNN, and CBS This Morning.

Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. (COR) Church was founded by five people on the University of California, Irvine campus. COR Church is now the largest predominantly African-American church in Orange County with more than 2,900 multi-racial members.
