Elton Lloyd Agnew, age 64, and the beloved baby brother of the Rev. Joyce Randall, quietly passed away on Wednesday, August 16.
A third child, and second son, Elton was a heaven-sent bouncy baby born on August 17, 1958 in Memphis, Tennessee to Jeff Henry and Marjorie Laverne Agnew, who are both deceased.
The family joined St. Stephens immediately after moving from Los Angeles, where they were all members of Southern Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Kelly Keys. After graduating from LaPuente High School, Elton enlisted in the U.S. Army with his brother, the late Jeff Henry Agnew, Jr.
The United States Army is where Elton fell in love with 18-wheeler big rig trucks. Because of an injury, he was honorably discharged and became a “Cross Country Soldier. ” After a brief stint with the United States Postal Service , Elton became an independent contract driver – a long haul truck driver – for more than 30 years.
Elton is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jacqueline Agnew; his daughters, Sabrina and Vanessa Agnew; sisters, Robin Estes (Jeff) and Rev. Joyce L. Randall (Michael), and a host of nephews, nieces, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Everybody referred to him as Uncle Elton.
Uncle Elton enjoyed kicking it with his family, barbeques, baby showers, parties, Thanksgiving, Christmas, every holiday he was not on the road, he was all in at the party. He was the Bid Whist King. Uncle Elton supported his sisters.
A homegoing celebration was held on Wednesday, September 6, at St. Stephen Baptist Church in La Puente where the Rev. Dr. Anthony Dockery is the pastor. A committal service was held the same day at Riverside National Cemetery.
Rev. Randall delivered eulogy and committal. Rev. Dr. Anthony Dockery graciously served as officiant. Immediately after the committal, a fellowship dinner was held in the beautiful setting of the Pomona Valley Mining Company.
