This was the first time a black man wearing a Cubs uniform had performed in a World Series. “It’s awesome to be the pioneer, the very first.” The Cubs fielded four African Americans—Jason Heyward, Addison Russell, Carl Edwards Jr., and Dexter Fowler.

Incidentally Ernie Banks played in the majors for 19-years and never put a foot in a Hall of Fame game. Gene Baker became the Cubs first two black players at the same time.
