Los Angeles matriarch Annie Woods Juarez, center, is saluted by family and friends on her 110th birthday. A celebration was held at Christ Temple Church of Christ. The event was hosted by The Hazelle Catherine Bass Institute for the Arts under the direction of Connie Bass, and her nieces Giselle Washington and Dr. Ethel Wellington-Trawick. Juarez’s nephew, Henry Carr, announced a $2,500 donation to the Annie Woods Juarez Scholarship to assist underserved youth in music education.
