The AME Southern California Conference Women In Ministry (SCCWIM) plan two events for their Annual Day observance on Monday, October 24, at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton Hotel, 5711 Century Blvd., in Los Angeles.
Activities will begin with a breakfast program at 10 a.m., featuring the Rev. Dr. Teresa Fry Brown and Dr. Michele Stewart Thomas as special guests. The ticket donation is $65. At 7 p.m., a worship service takes place with the Rev. Dr. Fry Brown as the guest preacher.
“We invite women and men of all faiths to come out for these inspiring events where you will hear from dynamic speakers and learn valuable information about spiritual and health wellness,” said the Rev. Dr. Charolyn Jones, SCCWIM coordinator. “In addition, the Rev. Carolyn Baskin Bell, the WIM 5th District president, we will join us in welcoming our new episcopal leaders, Bishop Clement and Supervisor Alexia Fugh.”
The Rev. Dr. Fry Brown is the Bandy Professor of Preaching at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the first tenured Black female Professor at Candler and the third Black female to become a full professor at Emory.
She is also the first woman to serve as historiographer of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She also is the editor of the A.M.E. A prolific writer and scholar, Fry Brown is the author of five books and publisher of several works on preaching and women in the ministry.
