Local community leaders will unite with members of Curry Temple C.M.E. Church to salute Pastor Willie L. McDaniel.

The celebration takes place on Sunday, June 22, with a luncheon at 1 p.m., followed by the worship service at 3:30 p.m., on the campus located at 322 West Rosecrans Avenue in Compton.  

The theme is, ‘A Leader Always Abounding in the Work of the Lord’ based on I Corinthians 15:58.  Elliott and LaVern White are the event co-chairpersons.

The Rev. Dr. E. Wayne Gaddis, pastor of Greater True Light Missionary Baptist Church, will be the guest preacher for the worship.  Dr. Gaddis also serves as president of the California Missionary Baptist State Convention and first vice moderator of the Pacific District Missionary Baptist Association.

Pastor McDaniel, who was ordained as an elder in 1984, served at Carter Temple C.M.E. in Dallas, TX, prior to his appointment to Curry. In addition, he has led several C.M.E. parishes including Central Metropolitan in Jacksonville, FL; St. Stephen in Fairfield, CA; Amos Temple in Riverside, Warren Chapel in San Pedro, and St. Mark in Los Angeles.

A graduate of Southern University, Pastor McDaniel earned a Master’s degree at CSU – Dominguez and completed doctoral studies at Trinity Theological Seminary.  Among his awards and honors are Northern California Pastor of the Year in 2002 and Southern California Pastor of the Year in 1996.

A member of the Public Administrator’s Honor Society, Pastor McDaniel worked more than 20 years as a municipal executive in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas.  He is married to Mrs. Patricia Rowe McDaniel and they are the parents of two adult children.
