The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) will host the 26th Annual Reel Black Men Short Film Showcase. The event will be held Saturday, August 10, at 4 p.m., at the Director’s Guild of America, 7920 Sunset Blvd., in Los Angeles,
The event will be hosted and moderated by William Allen Young, an actor, director and philanthropist. He has performed in more than 100 stage, film and television projects such as “9-1-1,” “Lone Star,” “CSI: Vegas,” “Code Black,” and “Moesha.” Also, Young is the founder of the Young Center for Academic & Cultural Enrichment.
“This year, we are proud of these amazing filmmakers and their films. If given the opportunity, these outstanding filmmakers will impact Hollywood for generations to come,” stated John Forbes, BHERC executive director.

The BHERC Reel Black Men Short Film Showcase features some of the nation’s talented emerging Black male filmmakers and each screening will include a dialogue following each film block.
“We are honored to spotlight emerging Black male directors and other diverse creatives. Now more than ever, we must support our Black storytellers and creatives who work to increase Black representation, stories and images in Film and Television. I extend my Congratulations to this year’s Class of 2024,” stated Sandra Evers-Manly, BHERC president.
The Class of 2024 Filmmakers include J.R. Aristide (“Port of A Prince”), Cameron Tyler Carr (“Harlem Fragments”), Christopher J. Cole (“Terminally Ill”), Beverick Deculus II (“NANY”), Ryan DeForeest (“My Brother & Me”), Dominque Draper (“Hell of A Child”), Fiyin Gambo (“Chosen”), Justice Gamble & Alex Benjamin (“Wow”), Luke Harris & MyQueal Lewis (“Danny Boy”), Joshua Kissi (“It Takes A Village”), Ramon Lyons (“Rhythm & Blues”), Joshua Mori (“Tomato Soup”), Andre Muir (“Chosen”), and Aristotle Torres (“Silent Partner”).
Past Reel Black Men filmmakers include Ryan Coogler (“Black Panther,” “Creed”), Nate Parker (“The Birth of A Nation,” “#AmeriCAN”), Malcom D. Lee (“The Best Man,” “Space Jam: A New Legacy”), and Tim Story (“Barbershop,” “Fantastic Four”). Many of these filmmakers have received honors and recognition for their achievements and artistry in the film and television industries.
“During this year’s showcase, I am proud to share we will announce our new initiative to develop films that address some of the most critical health-related and other issues in our community,” added Evers-Manly.
