The performance of Los Angeles Sparks Forward Dearica Hamby has not gone unnoticed as she earned WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week (June 3- June 9). During that time, Hamby averaged 19 points and shot a field goal percentage of 56 percent. Along with her dominant shooting, scoring, and assist numbers, Hamby helped the Sparks in a big victory defeating the defending WNBA champions Las Vegas Aces, and showcased outstanding defense leading the league in rebounds and steals per game.

“Hamby wanted the burden of being the go-to player when she joined us,” Miller said. “She’s showing up everyday to be the go-to player and believes she is. She wants to be an All-Star and she is playing like an All-Star.”
Hamby is in her 10th WNBA season and her second year with the Sparks. Hamby becomes the first Sparks player to earn this honor since June 2023. Seattle Storm forward Nneka Ogwumike who previously played for the Sparks was the last player to receive this award. This is the first time Hamby won this accolade. The Sparks lead the WNBA with the number of players to win Western Conference Player of the Week (63 recipients).
Before the former Wake Forest standout played for the Sparks, Hamby played for the Las Vegas Aces. Since she joined the Sparks, Hamby has started in 30 games, averaging 11.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Hamby is a WNBA champion, a two-time All-Star, and a two-time Sixth Woman of the Year.
Hamby recently signed a contract extension through the 2025 season, the Sparks announced.
