Super Bowl 50 champion and three-time Pro Bowler T.J. Ward will host the Champions in the Green celebrity golf tournament on May 21 at the Blackhawk Country Club in Blackhawk, CA. The tournament will benefit the WardBoy Project, a non-profit organization Ward started with his brother Terron.
“The reason for the golf tournament is because in the past, we found out you have the best time and you raise the most money and you can get the most people interacting together,” Ward said. “I had a few when I was playing in Denver with the Broncos out there and they were huge successes.”
The WardBoy Project works to empower youth in the Bay Area by hosting events that promote academic success, wellness, and mentorship.

“To accomplish what I set forth to do in my professional career is definitely rewarding,” Ward said. “To be able to do it with my brother and give back to the community that we come from, it definitely is very rewarding.”
Several NFL stars will attend Champions in the Green, including Super Bowl champions Aqib Talib and Von Miller, Eddie Pleasant, Orson Charles, and Kayvon Webster. The entertainers that will be at the tournament include rapper PLO, influencer Mikaela Banks, and actor Donovan Carter.
“You play the best ball in your groups of four so every man hits a ball and then you play the best ball from there, you continue on until you make it in the hole,” Ward said. “At the end of the round, every team will come up and see who wins and you’ll get a prize.”
Prizes include footballs signed by all the pro athletes in attendance and engraved tequila bottles. Some prizes will be auctioned off.
“We provide opportunities, programs and knowledge to these kids that are literally going to be in positions to give to those behind them sooner than later,” Ward said. “We want to continue the cycle of giving back to the future, giving back to the kids that need the guidance.”
After retiring from the NFL, Ward took up golfing. He mentioned how the two sports have several similarities.
“It’s very strategic, it’s unforgiving, it’s challenging, mentally and physically challenging and it’s communal,” Ward said. “You can get a bunch of guys out there shooting around and have a great time in a group.”
