“Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:”—Revelation 3:17
For most people, putting on clothes is an essential and everyday process. We all wear clothes to cover our bodies as we move about in public. Isn’t interesting though, that in being fully clothed, we are still naked without the Lord’s wisdom and guidance.
Diagnosis: Naked
The definition of naked is as follows: exposed to harm; unprotected or vulnerable.
“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.” —Revelation 16:15
In this verse, the Lord speaks about being clothed as being ready for His return. The Bible tells the importance of clothing ourselves with the Word of God. In order to live in this world, it’s important that we seek God to cover our spiritual nakedness.
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”—Ephesians 6:10-18
So, our spiritual diagnosis is as follows: we are wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. It didn’t look good but, Jesus changed everything when He died for us all. By accepting His death, we are now excellent, content, superior, discerning and ready.
