The Lula Washington Dance Theatre will present its annual Kwanzaa dance concert on Crenshaw Blvd. with celebrations this year with a twist. The concert will be outside!!
Because of COVID-based precautions, Lula Washington Dance Theatre’s Kwanzaa performances will be held on the dance company’s new outdoor stage for the first time.
The Kwanzaa performances will thrill audiences with three days of high velocity dancing and drumming, mixing African dance, Modern dance, and cultural dance forms, including African-themed ballet, all in unforgettable numbers! The dance school’s students, company’s youth, and adult dancers will perform together in the show.
Critics have said Lula Washington’s Kwanzaa is one of the “best dance shows in Los Angeles.” The performances happen Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, December 28, 29, and 30. Doors open at 6 p.m. each day and the performance start at 7 p.m. nightly.
“We’re providing heat lamps and heat blowers, so our performers and audience members can be nice and toasty despite the evening coolness,” said Tamica Washington-Miller, associate director of LWDT. Nevertheless, LWDT Artistic Director Lula Washington added, “Bring your coats, your hats, your ear muffs, your blankets and boots” to make sure you are warm. This is a family celebration, so feel free to bring your children also.”

The performances will be held on our COVID-conscious performance stage, located outside, within the LWDT parking lot at 3773 Crenshaw BLVD., L.A. CA 90016. LWDT observes all Los Angeles County Health Department COVID protocols.
