Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer Again Outpaces Efren Martinez By More Than 3:1 in Latest Fundraising Report

Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer

Today, Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer’s re-election campaign for Assembly District 59 announced that he had raised $702,403 in the latest fundraising report, finishing the period with $435,848 cash on hand. Jones-Sawyer’s campaign raised the sum with 7,500 unique contributions from small-dollar donors that averaged out to $4.23.

Conversely, Jones-Sawyer’s opponent, Efren Martinez,  raised only $188,951, less than one-third of Jones-Sawyer’s fundraising total, and finished the period with $159,242. Martinez’s report also featured numerous problematic donors with potential conflicts of interest, including business associates and political allies. Among the conflicts of interest in Martinez’s report include max checks from his client and pay to play partner, a small bus company that received a favorable contract, and a construction company that was given a pool contracting gig.

In a statement released reacting to the fundraising numbers, Jones-Sawyer campaign spokesperson Mac Zilber remarked:

“Our campaign is proud to have raised over $700,000, powered by grassroots progressive activists, working families and people in this community, because only together can we respond to this unprecedented crisis. On the other hand, it’s clear that Efren Martinez had let his pay-to-play political cronies bankroll his campaign. In these uncertain times, working people across the 59th District want leaders like Reggie representing them in the Assembly who have delivered for them time and time again, which we see reflected in the fact that he is once again the top fundraiser in this race. We are encouraged by Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer’s strong performance and will continue to work hard to expand his coalition of support in the weeks and months ahead.”
