Yaxhel Lozoya is focused on transferring to a university in the near future, with a goal to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. As a STEM major, sheregularly takes a heavy load of science and math courses each semester. Lozoya is enrolled in the El Camino College winter term, a move she says keeps her on track and prepared for the next level of study.

“By taking Physics 2A during the winter I get the chance to refresh and solidify my basic physics knowledge before I embark on the rest of the sequence without getting behind,” said Lozoya, a Torrance High School graduate and current ECC mechanical engineering major.

Registration is now open for the 2019 winter term, which runs Jan. 3 to Feb. 5. The schedule of classes, in both digital and searchable formats, is available online: http://www.elcamino.edu/admissions/schedule.asp.

Chelsey Sanchez, a communication studies major who plans to transfer to the University of California, Davis next fall, said that taking winter classes is helping her complete general education courses at a faster pace.

“Winter classes also helped me improve my GPA; the fast-paced environment really pushes me to stay focused in my classes,” she added.

Online classes are also offered during winter 2019.

“El Camino College is pleased to offer winter courses next month, a great opportunity for students to take courses in order to get ahead in their studies and satisfy prerequisites,” said El Camino College President Dena P. Maloney. “A variety of day and evening courses are available, from transferrable general education to basic skills courses. Many students find that winter courses also help them prepare for the next semester by keeping them focused on their studies.”

All students are encouraged to register as soon as possible for the best class selection. Students may register online at www.elcamino.edu by clicking on MyECC. The college will be closed for winter recess Dec. 24– Jan. 1, however, online registration is available at www.elcamino.edu 24 hours per day, seven days a week, even during the recess.
