To the youth readers, my prayer for you all is that you’re having an opportunity read for pleasure, whether it is a love story, drama, romantic or non-fiction otherwise known as the Bible. I hope that you now understand what a great book it is. Can you imagine challenging your English teacher with the Bible as a book report?
I would like to start with the first commandment with a promise we all know or have heard, which is in Ephesians 6:1-24, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
We have to know and believe that God’s promises to us are yea and Amen. All throughout the word of God, we are rewarded for our obedience. As it states in Deuteronomy 28:1, “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.”
While we continue to learn together as we read the scriptures to find our way and be rewarded for our obedience, let us be informed by Deuteronomy 11:1, which states, “Therefore you shall love the Lord your God, and keep His charge, His Statues, His judgments, and His commandments always.” You will surely be rewarded.
My mom used this scripture as a foundational scripture. Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” I grew up believing the word of God, and in turn, I was blessed tremendously. The word of God is my refuge in the time of need.
This scripture is personal to me and my understanding as a 13-year-old, which I applied to my life of being obedient to the word of God. In Hebrews 5:9, it says, “Being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him.”
In summation about obedience and my reason for being obedient, it is important to show obeisance, so that you’ll be respected and you’ll receive rewards for your respectful acts. I saw how hard my mom worked, and how well she took care of me, my job as her son was to honor her and be the best son I could ever be. I know God honored my obedience to my mom because I put Him first, so my rewards were good grades and other earthly rewards that I know I would not have received if I wasn’t obedient to the Lord’s Word and my mom.
Put God first, and you will be rewarded with His promises, which are Yes, and in Him, Amen.
