Award-winning actor and comedian Marlon Wayans announced Saturday, April 1, that his father and patriarch of the Wayans family, Howell Wayans passed away at 86 years old. He posted a statement on Instagram, describing a cherished moment he had with his father.

Marlon wrote the following on Instagram, “Thank you Pop for being an example of a Man to all your boys. I pray all young Black boys can grow up to be a Man like you. Baby boy loves you. And if ever I need you, I know exactly where to find you… in my Bible that now sits by bed. Rest well. Kiss Ma for me. Tell her, her babies miss her. I got two angels. I feel y’all lifting me already. If there’s a heaven, I know you sitting in VIP sippin’ the best wine Jesus can make…”

Marlon began the statement with the single word, ‘Legend’ and then proceeded to describe a treasured moment he shared with his father on what it meant to become a man.

Marlon learned about his dad passing away while performing at Flappers, a comedy club in Burbank, CA. TMZ reported he found out in between doing two shows, after learning the news he adjusted his set to reflect what it was like growing up as Wayans, ending the second show with the news that his father passed away that night.

The Wayans name is generationally acknowledged due to the impact of Keenen Ivory, Damon, Shawn, Dwayne, and Kim Wayans. Keenen Ivory produced a noted skit-comedy show that grew to wild popularity; “In Living Color.”

He also produced a number of movies such as “Don’t Be a Menace to Society,” each movie held an impactful message that called for social change. Sharing the Wayans legacy include Vonnie, Diedra, Nadia, Elvira and Elvira Alethia Wayans.
