Afro-Mex’s Citrus-flavored chicken will be waiting for you at the 2012 Taste of Soul.

Chicken with a twist will be served up with tasty sides at Taste of Soul 2012.

Chicken… whether you love white or dark meat… we all love it. John Johnston runs Afro-Mex Chicken (AMC), combining southwest flavors to make a tasty meal. He started AMC this year and is looking to make his mark with Taste of Soul 2012 (TOS).

“We serve chicken with two side orders—beans and Spanish rice,” said Johnston. “We [also] sell bratwurst.”

Also included in those sides is potato salad and coleslaw. Johnston became inspired to try his hand at catering by helping another TOS vendor.

“My real close friend, last year, I worked with him, he has a booth [at TOS],” said Johnston. “I said, ‘I could do this…”

And so, he will be doing it, October 20 at TOS, sharing his recipes with hundreds of thousands of TOS attendees. A retiree, Johnston has taken to cooking as a new venture and hopes to make the best of it.

He’s currently catering at events like TOS and isn’t currently based at a location. Johnston is looking forward to sharing his cuisine with everyone.

“I take great pride in what I cook,” said Johnston.

If you would like to try Johnston’s “citrus-flavored chicken,” you’ll have to scurry on down to Taste of Soul 2012 and give it a try!
