The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) are planting new seeds of racial equity within their principal foundation, LADWP Board of Commission President Cynthia McClain provided intensive details about the steps taken to create balance within the organization that controls the City’s water and power.
Los Angeles’ city workforce has a large racial pay gap, with city workers on average earning $53 per hour, while Black and Latino city employees earned an average of $44 per hour during the 2020 fiscal year, according to a report released today by Controller Ron Galperin.
Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti elaborated on upcoming plans for the city, as the community prepares for a second wave of increased transmission. Most recent numbers are projecting over thousands of new COVID-19 cases. The mayor went into detail about this unfortunate turn of events, and what this means for the city of Los Angeles.
Earlier, several civil rights organizations noted watching with vigilance as Senate negotiations and, later, voting in both chambers took place. “We know that when the economy goes into decline, people of color always bear the brunt,” said Teresa Candori, communications director for the National Urban League. “We will be fighting to make sure the most vulnerable communities are not an afterthought.”
