To help congregants make informed decisions during the Nov. 5 election, the Social Action Committee of Ward AME Church, under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Barry Settle, senior pastor, hosted a session outlining the pros and cons of state and local ballot measures and propositions. 

Ward AME Church Hosts 2023 Lay Weekend

On Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21, the Lay Organization of Ward AME Church will host the 2023 Lay Weekend with the theme,” Faith = God Said It.  Let’s do It!.”  On Saturday, May 20, a teach-in will convened from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the sanctuary located at 1177 West 25th Street in Los Angeles, said Pastor Barry Settle.

ANGEL NEIGHBORS IN COVID-19 TIMES –TELLING YOUR STORY TO SAY THANKS

On April 29, 1992, Ward Economic Development Corp (WEDC) had just completed its first housing development – Ward Villas (WV).  In the first month, neighbors – even those who were skeptical about who would move into affordable housing – came to help us protect the newly completed 90,000 + square ft. state of the art complex from being burned or looted.  People of good will provided staples, helped to “man” the fire hoses, stood guard, help residents feel comfortable, setting in place a close community relatedness that has lasted over these last 29 years.

Ward AME and Nonprofits Share Free Cooked Meals with South L.A. Community

With COVID-19 impacting countless lives in South Los Angeles, Ward AME Church united with two nonprofits to lessen the pressure on individuals and families in need. Ward’s Artishia Wilkerson Jordan Women’s Missionary Society joined with the National Action Network (NAN) and World Central Kitchen (ECK) to launch a multiple-day distribution of restaurant-cooked meals for community members.   The program kicked-off on April 28 and will continue every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Using the church’s parking lots on Adams Blvd and Magnolia Avenue, the groups staged separate pick-up sites for pedestrians and motorists to receive the

Ward AME Observes Pastor’s 30th Year as Itinerant Elder

Ward African Methodist Episcopal Church will observe the 30-year journey of ministry of Pastor John E. Cager III with services on Saturday, March 14, at 3 p.m., and Sunday, March 15, at 10 a.m. Both events will take place in Ward’s sanctuary, located at 1177 W. 25th St., in Los Angeles. The Rev. Darryl E. Walker, pastor of New Philadelphia AME Church in Long Beach, will be the guest preacher on Sunday. Cager has headed several churches since his ordination as an itinerant elder in 1994. SCLC’s Celebrates 63rd Anniversary and MLK Founder’s Day Service  

Believers in God and social justice gathered for the 63rd Anniversary and Founder’s Day Celebration sponsored by the Southern California Leadership Conference of Southern California on Jan. 5. The program helped to usher in the multitude of King Legacy Month 2020 activities that SCLC-SC plans to present during January in honor of the Rev. Memorial Service Set for LoRetta Malone

Los Angeles resident LoRetta Marlene Malone passed on October 25, at the age of 78. Her strong will to live, her unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends sustained her through her valiant fight with cancer. Even through some of her most difficult treatments, she strove to attend church, her sorority meetings, and community activities in her endeavor to live as normal and independent a life as she could.
