First Ladies Health Initiative Sponsors Back to School Party

  Hundreds of people took advantage of services and resources offered at the Back to School Party sponsored by the First Ladies Health Initiative on July 28. The free event, held at the First Ladies Health House in South L.A., featured free vaccinations for children and free health screenings for adults. Also, 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to students. Several health partners and volunteers donated their time and expertise to provide screenings for diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, hepatitis, HIV/AIDS and various cancers. Local Churches Host Successful First Ladies Health Day

Thirty churches in the Los Angeles area participated in the Walgreens-sponsored First Ladies Health Day on April 8, where attendees received free health tests and medical screenings. During the event, free health tests and medical screenings were provided for the entire family to address preventative illnesses, which disproportionately affect African Americans and Hispanics. Medical healthcare partners from Walgreens and more than 50 health organizations provided medical advice and counseling, as well as screenings for hypertension, HIV/AIDS, glucose, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and certain forms of cancer.

FAME Hosts Grand Opening of FLHI Health House

A new community service will be available to South L.A. residents though the First Ladies Health Initiative Health House. The new facility, located at 2249 South Hobart Boulevard in Los Angeles, will offer free health screenings, health clinics, healthy cooking classes and more on a monthly basis. The Health House will also be available for health-related speaking engagements and rentals. Scores of people attended the grand opening, tour and reception of the Health House on February 22. During the event, free health tests and medical screenings were provided for the entire family to address preventative illnesses, which disproportionately affect African Americans and Hispanics. Medical healthcare partners from Walgreens and more than 50 health organizations provided medical advice and counseling, as well as screenings for hypertension, HIV/AIDS, glucose, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and certain forms of cancer. Walgreens First Ladies Health Initiative kicks off in Los Angeles

Walgreens First Ladies Health Initiative will kick off the 2016 season with its First Ladies Health Day in Los Angeles on Sunday, April 10.
