Los Angeles: Russell Simmons Keep The Peace

Russell Simmons joined over 75 Los Angeles youth to take a pledge for peace on August 1st.

The event was held in partnership with Community Coalition and is part of RushCard’s Keep The Peace initiative, a national grant program designed to support non-profit, community-based organization across the country promoting peace and reducing youth violence.

Michigan undertaking plan to determine if Flint water safe

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has undertaken a five-part strategy to determine whether Flint’s water, which has become contaminated with lead, is safe to drink. The state said the plan to try to ensure that drinking water no longer is tainted with lead includes residential water testing, school testing, food service and restaurant provider testing, blood testing and overall testing of Flint’s water distribution system.

Russell Simmons hasn’t slept much since news broke in mid-October that users of his RushCard couldn’t access their own money and were locked out of their accounts, due to a computer glitch, leaving some unable to make rent payments, pay utility bills or buy groceries for their families.
