Ward AME and Nonprofits Share Free Cooked Meals with South L.A. Community

With COVID-19 impacting countless lives in South Los Angeles, Ward AME Church united with two nonprofits to lessen the pressure on individuals and families in need. Ward’s Artishia Wilkerson Jordan Women’s Missionary Society joined with the National Action Network (NAN) and World Central Kitchen (ECK) to launch a multiple-day distribution of restaurant-cooked meals for community members.   The program kicked-off on April 28 and will continue every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Using the church’s parking lots on Adams Blvd and Magnolia Avenue, the groups staged separate pick-up sites for pedestrians and motorists to receive the

  More than 200 people attended “Smooth Jazz on 25th & Magnolia” fundraiser sponsored by theWard AME Church’s Artishia Wilkerson Jordan WMS on June 22. Guests enjoyed lunch as they listened to music by Kirk Wilson & Underwater Traffic, Fernando Pullum’s Performing Arts Center, the Chosen Recovery Group Singers and jazz legend Barbara Morrison. Comedian Lester Barrie served as the emcee. According to Pastor John Cager III, “Our missionaries understand that jazz, like the African-American church, is something God gave to us to enjoy and we really appreciate the hard work that they put into making this event a fabulous success.”
