Before conquering daytime television, Williams spent 23 years building a devoted fan base on the radio with “The Wendy Williams Experience,” a top-rated daily radio show. Syndicated nationally, it aired on WBLS in New York, captivating an audience of more than 12 million people. In recognition of her contributions, Williams was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in November 2009, a prestigious honor held by only a handful of women.

BET+ Collabs with CBC to Launch New Series, “The Porter”

BET+ and the Canadian Broadcasting Corportation (CBC) have come together to release a new series, “The Porter,” which highlights the creation of a Black worker’s union in the roaring twenties. Inspired by real life events, The Porter follows a group of about five characters who hustle, move mountains, and stop at nothing to make their dreams come true and fight for the much-deserved liberation of themselves and their people.

The 19th highlighted the broad coalition backing Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court and the efforts to ensure her confirmation, including the $1 million ad campaign jointly launched by Building Back Together, the Black Women’s Leadership Collective, and She Will Rise. The digital, television, and radio ads in D.C. and in battleground states including Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, including on Black-owned media outlets and publications, emphasize Judge Jackson’s extensive qualifications and broad experience across the legal profession and urge her swift, bipartisan confirmation by the Senate.

“King Richard,” the Will Smith-starring film about the childhood rise of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams and the father who raised them for greatness, was named today the winner of the Los Angeles Press Club’s seventh annual Veritas Award.  The award recognizes the “best film based on or inspired by real events and people.” Films are judged “on fidelity of subject matter and artistic excellence,” according to the Press Club.

Bounce, the nation’s popular entertainment television network serving African Americans, is rescheduling the 2022 Bounce Trumpet Awards, which had been originally planned to take place live on Jan. 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and air on Bounce on Jan. 17. The date has yet to be determined.
