LACo Reports 27 New COVID-19 Deaths, 1,725 New Cases

Los Angeles County reported another 27 COVID-19 deaths today, while hospitalizations due to the virus dropped again. The 27 fatalities lifted the countywide death toll from the virus to 25,713. The county also reported 1,725 new cases, giving the county a cumulative total from throughout the pandemic of 1,435,163.

LAUSD Board Votes To Require COVID-19 Vaccination for Students Over 12

All eligible Los Angeles Unified students aged 12 and over will be required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend in- person classes under a policy unanimously approved by the district’s Board of Education today, making it the largest district in the nation to impose such a mandate. Dr. Kevin Williams, the chief medical officer for Pfizer Rare Disease, addressed the conference during a Pfizer-hosted breakfast presentation titled, “African Americans and Heart Disease – New Research Breakthrough: Announcing 2020 Partnership between Pfizer and NNPA.” At a later session titled “Future of Medicaid and Medicare: Healthy You, Healthy Us – What is Managed Care and How Does It Advance Health Equity,” AmeriHealth Caritas officials said it was important to gain a greater understanding of the different ways managed care organizations address key social disparities.

Kidney Patients Rally For Their Lives

Californians rallied to “Protect Kidney Patients” on the steps of the State Capitol Building. California NAACP, organ donors, transplant recipients, leading advocates, medical professionals and dialysis patients alike joined to demand action from their State Senators to support patients living with kidney failure, and the individuals who offer lifesaving organ transplants by voting No on AB 290 (Wood) and Yes on AB 1223 (Arambula).
