Every week for 25 years, I have hit Our People Barbershop in Carson to see Tracy Prince for a fresh bald fade. As a Black woman entering a predominantly male space, I recognize Black barbershops as places of learning and community.
We all love June because it’s the beginning of summer, which means backyard cookouts, warm weather, and vacations. It is also Men’s Health Month and Black Music Month, marking the perfect time and way for Black men to go above and beyond yearly check-ups, regular exercise, and improved eating habits.
We must drastically change healthcare in the Black community, particularly to address Black women’s reproductive health.
Planned Parenthood Los Angeles’ (PPLA) Black Health Initiative Leadership Team celebrated the grand opening of their Inglewood Health Center and Planned Parenthood Community Center on May 13.
Black women in Los Angeles County are four times more likely to die because of pregnancy and its complications than women of any other race. In one of the wealthiest countries in the world, Black mothers are dying from preventable causes at rates that continue to rise.
